Where to Wander in May.

Late autumn is the perfect time to get out and about. Even though the weather is getting cooler, we have plenty of ideas to keep you busy on your weekends!

So here are some of our best picks of where to Wander this May…

1. Wilderness Yoga Marysville.

Whether you are a dedicated yogi or a first timer this is the perfect introduction into yoga! Founded by Dr. Belinda Christie an environmental scientist, yoga teacher, author and speaker I don’t think you could find anyone better equipped to help you reconnect with your inner self and the world around you. The day includes; 3 hour hike, 1-hour yoga class, 4 meditation classes, a welcome chai on arrival and an amazing gift bag from some pretty special sponsors (including Wanderings & Co.) 2. High Country Harvest 5th – 21st May

The High Country Harvest is on from the 5th of May till the 21st. Celebrating all that Victoria’s High Country has to offer with over 53 different culinary events across 3 weeks. With events held at restaurants, kitchens, cellar doors, breweries and more you are bound to find something that tickles your fancy! Check out the website to find out about all the different events that are on. Our picks for the festival is the Creative Campfire Cooking at Rutherglen.

3. Bright Autumn Festival Gala.

 This festival celebrates all things of Alpine life in the valleys. Over 10 days the town celebrates the autumn colours and produce of the valleys of Victoria’s Alpine High country. The main even of this festival is the Gala Day held on the 6th of May that features a market, live music and a grand parade. Why not make a long weekend of it and check out all of what the festival has to offer. There are plenty of events running over the 10 days, you can check the program out here…

4. Mornington Peninsula Winery Walk.

If you love wine and supporting a good cause then this is the event for you! This year the Winery Walk is supporting the Fed Hallows Foundation with each ticket sold 1 person will be given the gift of sight. The 10km walk will start at the Red Hill Market and take you through a journey of what Red Hill has to offer in both wines and produce. Then return to Lindenderry by bus for a light lunch.

5. St Kilda Film Festival.

If you’re looking for some indoor adventures this May then the St Kilda Film Festival is the one for you! Featuring Australia’s top 100 short films the festival supports both immerging artists as well as accomplished industry professionals. Due to the nature of them being “short films” the organizers have packaged up a selection of short films into feature length sessions. These sessions are priced from just $18! 6. Good Beer Week.

Love beer? Love mountain biking? Why not do both! This years Good Beer Week has 100’s of events on offer but our favourite has to be the Ride with the Brewer that is held by The Red Hill Brewery. This guided ride takes you along the trails of the region taking in the spectacular scenery followed of course by a good beer sesh. Good Beer Week runs from May 12th – 21st.

7. Jazz on Puffing Billy.

If you’re looking for a great night out then you can’t go past this classic. Live jazz music by the Mast Gully Quartet along with great local wine and dinner, Jazz on Puffing Billy is a night not to be missed. After you enjoy the live performance the train will take you through the Dandenong Ranges up to the historic restored Packing Shed where you will enjoy a blazing log fire and delicious dinner. The jazz tunes will continue on your return journey along with a complimentary glass of port, tea or coffee. Sounds like a pretty good night to me!

8. Grampians Great Escape.

Escape to the Grampians for a weekend full of Western Victoria’s finest wine and food producers. This event has something for everyone from live music, cooking demonstrations, grape stomping and plenty of activates for the kids. You can also spend the weekend exploring the beautiful surroundings that the Grampians have to offer.

9. The Great Ocean Road Running Festival.

 This event attracts thousands of people wanting to conquer one of the most beautiful and unique marathons in the world. The 2 day running festival has plenty of events to suit people of all ages and abilities. There is also a Walk on offer this year along with a Kite Festival and other live music and entertainment on offer. Enjoy a weekend by the picturesque Southern Ocean and along the iconic Great Ocean Road.
