Sip Session #3 - Spiced Mulled Wine

mulled wine

Nothing quiet says Winter like a cup of Mulled Wine! And even though we’re only in May it is feeling pretty bloody wintery today so we’re bringing forward this addition of Sip Session to you today!

This is a super easy recipe that you can make at home in 20 mins. And the best bit is you don’t even need a fancy bottle of Red, in fact nows the time to use up that random bottle in the back of your cupboard that you can’t even remember who gave to you! Because by the time you’re finished with this recipe even the crappiest of wine (if theres such a thing) will taste incredible.

Ingredients:

  • Bottle of red

  • Cinnamon Sticks x 2 or whisk in some ground cinnamon if you don’t have the sticks

  • Cloves or Star Anise (or both!)

  • Tablespoon of honey (you can use 100g sugar but I prefer honey or maple syrup)

  • Oranges or apples

  • Orange peel

  • 1cup of Orange juice (optional)

Method:

Step 1 - Place the spices, cinnamon sticks, honey (or sugar), orange juice and 200ml of the red wine in a saucepan and stir over a low heat until the honey/sugar dissolves.

Step 2 - Then bring to a rolling boil and boil for 5 - 10mins until it looks syrupy.

Step 3 - Remove from the heat and strain the syrup if necessary. Return syrup to the pot, add the rest of the red wine and gently heat until the wine is warm.

Step 4 - Serve in a glass or mug with slices of orange if desired. Sit by the fire and enjoy being warmed up from the inside out!
