Where to wander this Winter.

Although Winter may not be the most encouraging time of year when it comes to going outdoors, we’ve listed our top five events that are bound to get you out of bed on a cold Winters day. There are plenty of great activities on with famers markets, art galleries and wineries all putting on a show to get us out and about.

So get up, rug up and head on out to explore these great events!

  

Island Whale Fest.

 Where: Phillip Island, Vic

When: Friday 5th – 7th of July

Each year Phillip Island celebrates the migration of the oceans most majestic creatures by holding a 3-day festival held during the school holidays in July. It’s the perfect opportunity to head to the coast for the weekend and take in the beautiful natural habitats that Philip Island and the Bass Coast region have to offer. Also, the excitement of spotting a Humpback, southern right or maybe even a killer whale is a big drawcard too!

 

Lowlight Queenscliff.

Where: Queenscliff and Point Lonsdale

When: During May and June

Although a beachside spot may not be your first thought for a Winter get away, this boutique fringe festival in Queenscliff and Point Lonsdale is the perfect escape. The two-month long celebration is showcasing an array of art exhibitions, film screenings, literary readings and music performances. If arts are not your thing, Low Light will also host an array of culinary delights from degustation’s, wine tastings and whiskey classes.

It all sounds pretty bloody good to us!

 

Rutherglen Wine Festival. 

Where: Rutherglen

When: 8th – 9th of June Queens Birthday Weekend

Looking for a getaway over the long weekend? Well how about visiting the oldest Wine festival in Victoria! The Winery Walkabout is a jam-packed weekend including wine tastings, live music, entertainment and tours of 19 different wineries.

The festival has been running for over 40 years, so you know it must be good! On the Sunday the Rutherglen Rotary Club run the famous Rutherglen Country Fair, take a stroll through 300 writing stalls offering the best in local craft and produce. Wine, markets and beautiful surrounds! This has everything you need for a fun filled long weekend!

  

Wine and Wildlife Festival – Healesville Sanctuary.

Where: Healesville Sanctuary

When: 8th – 10th of June Queens Birthday Weekend 11pm – 4pm.

Cost: Adults $37 for entry to Healesville Sanctuary and $12 for festival

 Another option for the long weekend is Healesville sanctuary. They are teaming up with the Yarra Valleys finest icons to bring you a weekend of delicious food and wine in their beautiful bush setting. You can enjoy live music by a warm open fire whilst tasting local wine and produce! This festival has everything you need and more. All ticket proceeds help zoos Victoria on their quest to save the endangered Tassie Devil from extinction so why not support a great cause and have a lovely weekend all at once!

Mt Buller – Twilight Sessions. 

Where: Mt Buller

When: Saturdays and Sundays from 6 July to 25 August 2019 

Cost: $26 (Twilight lift pass only)

Nothing beats a day on the slopes but this season the fun can continue even after the sun goes down! On weekends at Mt Buller during July and August you can board or ski under the lights on the Bourke St run until 8:30pm. Make the most of your day and ski from sunrise to sunset!

Mt Buller is only a couple of hours from Melbourne and the perfect getaway for Winter. There are plenty of fun activities for all ages to enjoy including 80’s Day, the Burton Cattleman’s Rail Jam and the Pond Skim Championships just to name a few.
