Let the adventures begin...(well almost)

We know the easing of restrictions in Melbourne are still a while off, but we are super proud of how far we’ve already come and are starting to let ourselves dream of road trips and holidays again! So, we decided to put together a list of the top 5 adventures we are keen to have after lockdown. It was pretty hard to pick just 5 if we’re honest, the list has only been growing while we’ve been in iso but these are some fun getaways we can hopefully go on soon enough!

No 1. Great Otway Ranges

This whole area has been on our list for a long while now, we’ve done a little bit of exploring down here but know there is so much more to see. For us it has the best of everything; beaches, rainforests, waterfalls – it really is a playground of outdoor adventures. This area also has lots of great food and wine options too! I think we might need longer than a weekend to make the most of this trip, but we are super keen to get over that side of Vic.

No 2. Gippsland

We are lucky enough to visit our families beach house in Loch Sport a few times a year but ever since the devastating bushfires at the start of 2020 we promised ourselves that we would explore more of what Gippsland has to offer and support the affected towns. Whether it be visiting the historical towns or learning about the ancient Indigenous history, taking in the art culture or sampling some of the gourmet produce, there is so much to discover and enjoy in Gippsland.

There are so many great coastal walks, we are especially keen to do the Thurra River Dunes Walk that takes you through the 30m high dunes up to the summit with incredible views overlooking the Croajingolong National Park.

No 3. Mornington Peninsula

We are usually down along the Peninsula at least once a month so it feels like FOREVER since we last visited. It’s felt even harder as it’s only a 50min drive from home but we are so keen to catch up with family and friends and visit some of our favourite hang outs. Bring on all the wineries, farmers markets and beaches this summer! We’ll be swimming, paddle boarding and enjoying all the Peninsula has to offer!

No 4. High Country

Considering we haven’t been able to go for a good 4WD drive in a while it’d be fun to head up to Bright and do some exploring in the Alpine National Park. We love this area of Vic; between Beechworth, Myrtleford and Bright there is so much to see and do here. With hiking, mountain biking, 4WD tracks, brewery’s and all the amazing gourmet produce; it really has something for everyone. We’ve also got family up in this corner of Vic too, so it’d be nice to finally catch up with them after months of being apart.

No. 5 Merimbula and the Sapphire Coast

I know this one isn’t in Vic but it’s one of our all-time favourite places. It’s somewhere I holidayed every year as a kid and it just holds a special place in my heart. Again, we’d love to head up this way and offer some support to the towns along the coast that were affected by the bushfires this year. There are plenty of great coastal walks, snorkelling and whale watching during Spring. But of course, nothing beats a lovely country drive to Tilba Tilba to sample some delicious cheese and enjoy the charming town. We hope to be able to cross the boarders again sometime soon!

We have a pretty big trip planned for next year but in the meantime these 5 places should keep us pretty busy! Where will your next adventure take you? Nows the time to get planning and give yourself something to look forward too for after lockdown! We all deserve some time away after getting through the hard few months we’ve just had! So go on, get planning!
