A little something about me.

Me.jpg

Most of you know I much prefer to be behind the camera than in front. And although there have been a few shots of me on our instagram page over the years I realised that I’ve never actually introduced myself to you. So here it goes...

My name is Laura Morriss, I’m 29 years old. I live in the Dandenong ranges with my fiancé Andy and our 2 Aussie Shepherds; Malto and Tuck. All in all life is pretty good!

I love winter, camping, the beach, sleeping in and drinking coffee. I’m a creature of comfort; you’ll usually find me in trackies and ugg boots, sitting in my studio dreaming up some new DIY project. Kind of like the above image minus my hair being down (I’m usually a pony tail kinda gal).

I was always a creative kid, growing up surrounded by strong creative women is something I am really grateful for. Both my grandmas, my mum, sister and neighbour (who was an art teacher) all had their hand in nurturing my love for craft and sewing. But if I wasn’t busy making something you’d find me outside with my dad in the garden or going for walks in the 100 acres that were next door to my grandparents house. It’s funny when I look back on my childhood it really is no wonder why I turned out the way I have.

When I finished school I was accepted to study a Bachelor of Conservation and Biology which I differed and studied fashion design instead (again with the 2 consistent themes in my life!). But after a couple of years of trying to pursue a career in fashion and doing a bit of travel I decided to start my own label that combined my two loves; the outdoors and sewing! That’s how Wanderings & Co was born.

Since 2015 it’s taken many twists and turns, I’ve done markets, been in some stores and while I was freelance sewing for a few brands it really was my main gig for a while there. But when we moved out of home I was lucky enough to land a full time job creating content for a big company and since then Wanderings has taken a bit of a backseat. It’s really hard when you love your full time job as much as your side hustle. I truly never thought that would be an issue for me, although it’s one I’m grateful for! Not many people love what they do so I know how lucky I am.

But in saying all that I’ve always continued to post on Wanderings over the years because at the end of the day I love taking photos, telling stories and making things!

So I’ve decided in this weird unknown world we have found ourselves in and while we can’t get outside and wander, those are the things I am going to continue to focus on. Over the next few months (or who knows how long it’ll be!) I’m going to share with you our home, our projects and our life. It might be a little bit different to the usual content on here but I hope you enjoy it all the same.

I hope you and your families are all safe, healthy and manage to find some joy or inspiration in the things I’ll be sharing with you.

So here’s to this next adventure!
